A Letter To A Pagan

We received an e-mail from the form submit system on this web site, from a person that follows a Pagan path and the following reply was submitted in reply.  We have posted it here to answer questions that Pagans and Christians alike might have after viewing our website and feeling confused by what some might consider unlikely.  Out of respect to the reader we have with held their name and e-mail address.

The original e-mail follows first, then the reply which was submitted to the reader.

My Little Girl

[from a letter to the editor of THE DOUGLAS ENTERPRISE from Reverend Steadman]

As some of you may know, I recently lost my life mate of 35 years for the second and final time. If you had read my commentary published by The Douglas Enterprise on March 28 of last year, you would know about the miracles which occurred to bring my “little girl” back to me, beginning with the Herculean efforts of the staff at Coffee Regional Medical Center and culminating with thousands of prayers offered on her behalf from all corners of the world. Valentines Day-The Rest Of The Story

[from a letter to the editor of THE DOUGLAS ENTERPRISE from Reverend Steadman]

For the past 27 years, I have spent most of that time studying religions and the ways in which Christianity fits in with those faiths. Today, thanks to the Michael Guido Evangelistic Association, Seeds From the Sower, I was reminded that one can forget the most basic and mundane aspects of any particular study over many years. For fun, without reading ahead, can you name me ONE Christian Holiday that is participated in by children, adults and those who work in government agencies in this country and even in countries that are not Christian? The Great Awakening vs burnout

[from an e-mail thread ]

Like many editors and authors, the Reverend Jim Wallis, editor of Sojourners and author of the best selling novel God’s Politics, e-mails daily or weekly updates plugging their publications. In the most recent e-mail, Wallis mentions his new book, The Great Awakening (see below) in which I found the following quote interesting;

“The Great Awakening speaks of two great hungers in our world today—the hunger for spirituality and the hunger for social justice. I believe that the connection between the two is one the world, and especially a new generation, is waiting for. The Great Awakening makes that vital connection and shows how spiritual renewal will likely be a necessary part of social change………”

While I agree with Reverend Wallis that there is indeed a changing in the direction of the wind so to speak, I think that there is a fundamental shift in how we as a society perceive spirituality and those that preach and teach. [Read more →]

A Mormon Member Speaks Out

[from an e-mail thread]

I think much of the missing “preaching” has come about because of the increase in the qualifications of those who now come here for membership.  I always held that this egroup should always be a main part of someone’s training, someone’s effort to “find their voice” before moving out into the greater community.  Most who now come already have that “voice” and are seeking to obtain the necessary credentials to carry that “voice” to another arena.  And, that is primarily what we do, facilitate those called who were never given the opportunity to grow in their faith, knowledge and understanding prior to coming here. A question on fundamentalism

A discussion in which the Chief Executive Officer of the church responds to a member’s question regarding certain views of others outside of this church considered to be more fundalmentalist.

The following is a message posted to our e-mail discussion group.  The “original message” which poses a question regarding fundamentalists is followed by a response.

Subject:  A question on fundamentalism

I am not sure what the mix is in the church, but I believe it to contain the full spectrum of theological beliefs; and, I feel that  is a very good thing. I am seeking help from those who are  knowledgeable of the Christian Fundamentalist theological thought. I have a question. First some background, I am not a fundamentalist. At times it is hard for me to understand the implications of fundamentalism. At my core I am a Christian and I am a physicist. I see no problem with my beliefs and my understanding of God’s creations. But, I have some very serious problems with a very literal interpretation of the Bible. [Read more →]

A CHURCH THAT RECOGNIZES CHRISTIAN WICCAS and CHRISTIAN PAGANS

by Reverend Dr. Ernerst Steadman
Founder of The Church Of Interfaith Christians

Since starting this Church in 2002, The Church Of Interfaith Christians, many have come to us who, although believing and following the Christ, feel more comfortable practicing the Wicca or Pagan traditions.  We fully recognize such practitioners, as did the early Church during Christ’s ministry and for the first 350 years thereafter. The Rising Cost Of Food and Ways To Save

This is a collection of e-mails that resulted from an editorial that Reverend Steadman wrote. This should be of interest to anyone seeking to start a food pantry or just save a few dollars.

Subject: [thechurchofinterfaithchristians] Recent Editorial On The Price Of Goods

April 24, 2006

Has anyone else also noticed the upward movement of our grocery prices the last three months? I know that the cost to move goods from factory to store is a big part of that, but did you know that we are also beginning to pay for “overages”? That is a peculiar thing that happens when factories, so afraid of not having enough product to fill a particular store order, or orders they hope will come in while the truck is in route, puts more product in a load than is required. What happens to this overage? Usually, it stays with the truck, that is, unless that truck must stop for another pickup prior to going back to its place of origin. In that case, the product gets DUMPED at the next loading dock to make room for the new load. [Read more →]

Christian Evangelicals and God’s Politics

[ from Reverend Steadman’s editorials Published in the THE DOUGLAS ENTERPRISE Douglas, Georgia]

I hope that every Evangelical in the community served by The Douglas Enterprise will take a moment and read this commentary, if for no other reason than to insure they are not left behind by their fellow Evangelicals throughout the rest of the nation.

According to a January 31 article published in the Los Angeles Times, by Stephanie Simon, Evangelicals are beginning what I call a grassroots effort to separate themselves from those very things I have harped about within these “Letters To The Editor” pages concerning Church and State, Same-Sex Marriages, School Prayer and other easily identified agendas of the coalition between the ultra right-wing conservatives and Evangelical Christians.
