About The Lighthouse
Welcome To The Lighthouse
Lighthouse On The Corner Ministries has undergone many changes over the years and continues to evolve as God calls upon us to change and adapt to his needs and the needs of his people. What began as an Internet Church, a so called “Church without walls” has become an umbrella for several other local real world ministries. Currently this website and blog serves as outlet for our publishing ministry, and as such many of our writings as well as some sermons can be found here, along with links to our published material. Please click on the links in both the left and right hand columns to read more of our material, or read the following which explains our calling to the ministry.
Our inspiration for entering the service of God and creating this ministry began with a rather curious visit from a Baptist minister. We had visited his church on several occasions and finally a time slot became available that was convenient for both his schedule as well as ours and the three of us were able to meet at our home for a friendly visit, coffee, and prayer.
During this visit we expressed our feelings about our search for a new church to join as the last congregation we had belonged too was lead by the minister who had performed our wedding ceremony, and who had counseled us prior to our wedding ceremony as we both had been previously married. This minister of our previous church home, so inspired us with his insight into the bonds of matrimony as well as the messages he delivered each Sunday, that when we finally learned that all the while he was counseling us he was also having an affair with his daughter-in-law, we were deeply hurt and lost. This feeling of disassociation arising from this unfortunate situation was what led us upon a search for a new church home. We shared this experience with the visiting Minister from the new church that evening, as well as other aspects of our lives.
Then finally during the prayer at the end of his visit, he asked God not only to bless us, like any good minister would do during prayer at the end of a visit with one of his congregation, but he then asked the Lord to make our home a “Shining Light House On the Corner, A Beacon Reaching Out Into The Darkness.” This request of God seemed at the time to be merely his use of symbolism in asking our Lord to bless our home, but much later we realized it was more.
A few nights later, Ann arose from her sleep and drawn to the front door by some strange feeling, she opened the door and looked out into our front yard and by some strange combination of shadow and light, a near perfect cross of light was projected upon the grass. This event was a deep spiritual experience to Ann, one that at first terrified her as if it was a message telling us to leave that place, but later she realized that it was a sign of what path we should follow.
For a time, we attended the Baptist church led by the minister that visited us that night so many years ago, but we felt somehow disassociated or detached from the congregation. I should mention that this was of no fault of the minister, but rather differences we had with that particular congregational fellowship. And over the last few years we have learned of a group of Christians that is growing exponentially who have differences with so called mainstream denominations and their doctrines or what might be better called the opinions and interpretations of spirituality by mankind.
Recognizing a growing need for ministers to build spiritual homes and fellowships for these people left out or left behind by the mainstream, was the epiphany that called us into the ministry. The Lighthouse is part of a growing association of ecumenical and truly interfaith ministries that seek to heal the differences between the various faiths and paths, as well as to aid the healing of the spiritual wounds inflected upon some of God’s children by controlling churches and the convoluted doctrines authored by man which have little resemblance to the teachings of Christ.
This blog, is a outreach ministry to those wounded, those disassociated, those pushed out, of their home churches by rhetoric that creates divisiveness, promotes hate, inculcates greed and lust for great personal financial gain. This is a home for those who look into their hearts and ask would Jesus torture? Would Jesus forget the poor while lusting after great wealth? Would Jesus build a monetary treasure upon the backs of the working class? Would Jesus turn away the downtrodden, those cast off by society, or those who might be called modern day lepers? Would Jesus inculcate hate and intolerance? Would Jesus approve of turning his Father’s creation into a veritable wasteland in the name of corporate gain and financial greed? Would Jesus reward and support political leaders that profess their righteousness and hide behind a façade of piety but yet would he support these same politicians when they commit all sorts of crimes of bribery, fraud, and even moral infractions that are unspeakable?
Anyone who has read the gospels of the New Testament, should know the answers to these questions, but sadly, we see some main stream churches promoting rhetoric that seems to absolve those who practice these things of any wrong doing. And even appearing to reward them by portraying them as great Christian leaders. A phenomena that tends to make others want nothing to do with a church that seems to promote and reward, hate, intolerance, ill gotten financial gain, destruction of the environment, and so forth. It is these who see the Christian church as the very anti thesis to Christ, who see the church as the anti Christ itself, who we reach out to. We seek to send the message that not all Christians have lost their way. And like a Lighthouse in the real world, we seek to be a guiding light, reaching out into the darkness, illuminating the way for travelers who are seeking a safe harbor.
We hope that our website, and our ministry touches your heart somehow, helping you to grow in your love for God and service to him and our fellow man. Please keep checking back to this web site to see what is new, as the website has undergone many metamorphoses over the years and will no doubt undergo some more.
